Jal Mahal (meaning the "Water Palace")




Glory of the 16th Century!


Jal Mahal (meaning the "Water Palace") is located in the Man Sagar Lake of Jaipur city, which is the capital of the State of Rajasthan in western India.

Built in the 16th century and renovated further by the Maharaja (King) of Jaipur in the 18th century, the palace architecture represents of a true water palace in Rajput style and is made of red sandstone. The red sandstone is a native stone found in Jaipur.

Jal Mahal Architecture


Jal Mahal is a five story structure with only top floor visible now and rest of the four stories immersed in lake water. It showcases a beautiful architecture with phenomenal views. The palace holds octagonal shapes and has a terrace garden. Historically, the Jal Mahal was built as a duck hunting lodge and not meant to be a residential royal palace.


This is a must see historical site when visiting Jaipur in Rajasthan, and the best season to visit is considered to be October!
